Jinna’s Beef. Jinna Pak 092908 WH Every day, during the time of 10:39~ 12:05, students in Korea International School have their lunch. There are 3 choices that they can have for every lunch meal; eastern, western, and deli. Yet, no single one of them tastes any good. For eastern, JJ catering provides all kinds of American food including pasta, lasagna, pork steak, donkas, etc. For western, they provide Korean food including rice, noodle, fish, etc. Lastly, deli contains sandwich, salad, bagel, hotdog, chips, and different kinds of drinks. Besides all these great amount of food choices that students have for every lunch, it is useless without such good taste. They say that they have done their best to make the meal as healthy as possible, and they would not care of how it tastes. However, what is the point of the food being healthy when no students actually eat those healthy foods because it tastes so gross? Plus, no one can be precisely sure about the fact that JJ catering foods are healthy. How can they be so confident when people find hairs and weird materials in their meal? According to one student, unnecessary to the school society, as the student in this school had an experience where he couldn’t bite on to bread and bagel due to the fact that it was too hard as a rock. Not only the hunger matters for all young adults, but also all junior and high school students are involved in an age of puberty. Those are the ages where students should eat healthy foods as much as possible for their growth, and brain. If they can’t eat due to such bad quality of the food, it is all JJ catering’s fault where they have the responsibility to support every meals. Moreover, the cost isn’t quite cheap either. Students usually spend about 3500 W ~ 10000 W per every meal, which worth a lot of money as for young adolescences or students. People understand this cost, because this school is a private school. However isn’t private school supposed to provide high quality meals too? If JJ catering is going to provide such nasty meals, it would be better for students to just go outside and buy lunch of their own with that much of money. There are additional examples that have been said, but people are afraid to say out all of them that all students might freak out about such unexpectedness about Korea International School’s lunch. In order to prevent or make any changes to this system of having lunch, omitting the rule of ‘No ordering foods from outside without the principle’s permission’ would be better. Ordering foods from outside such as pizza, chicken, rice, noodle, or anything by paying the same amount as paying the school might be better for the student’s hunger and health. Another way of making a change could be having one more catering other than JJ catering so that they could be on somewhat a competition. No matter how many choices students have for each lunch time, it would be better for both caterings to make delicious food to sell more for them. Suppose JJ catering makes better food than KK catering. Then JJ catering obviously earns more income than KK catering, which puts KK catering into a fierce jealousy for more income. Then both caterings would try their best to satisfy the students having lunch. The last way for a solution is voting. Not just voting by asking, ‘how was today’s lunch?’, but actually asking students what kinds of meal they prefer for eating other than normal days. Therefore, there needs to be some alteration of KIS’s school lunch and possibly some changes to the policies also. South Korea, September 29, 2008
